English food writer and television personality Nigella Lawson was born in 1960 in Wandsworth, London. Lawson’s family on her mother’s side owned and operated the Lyons and Co. catering business, and so it is little surprise that Nigella grew up influenced by the culinary arts. After graduating from Oxford University in the mid 1980’s, Nigella launched her career as a journalist, becoming one of the best-known food critics and editors for The Sunday Times.
Throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s, Nigella wrote for a number of magazines and newspapers in a freelance capacity, until in the late 1990’s she published her first book, How to Eat. The book became a best-seller and led to How to Be A Domestic Goddess, earning her an Author of the Year Award from the British Book Awards. By the turn of the millennium, Nigella’s first cooking show series, Nigella Bites, had launched on the Channel 4 network in the UK, making Lawson one of the most recognizable cooks in the country.
In the United States, Nigella Lawson rose to prominence in 2006 as the host of Nigella Feasts on the Food Network. Since that time, Nigella Lawson has appeared on multiple shows for the network, including Top Chef and Iron Chef America, and she serves as a host on the television show The Taste. To date, Lawson has authored nearly a dozen cookbooks, the most recent of which – Simply Nigella – was published in 2015.
