The American rock band known as The Record Company was established by founding members Mark Cazorla, Alex Stiff, and Chris Vos. With common interests ranging from punk to blues, the trio of musicians began writing music together in 2011, and over the next few years they recorded much of their music in home spun studios throughout California.
Between 2011 and 2013, The Record Company released a number of EPs, including: Superdead (2012), Covers (2012), Feels So Good (2013.) The EPs garnered the attention of Concord Records, and after signing with the label, The Record Company entered the studio to begin writing and recording for their debut feature album.
The result, Give It Back to You, was an enormous success. On the strength of the number one alternative single, “Off the Ground,” the album shot into the top twenty on both the rock and alternative charts in the United States and earned The Record Company a nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album. Additional singles include “Rita Mae Young,” “On the Move,” and “Baby I’m Broken.”
Since that time, The Record Company has opened for big-name acts such as Blackberry Smoke, Grace Potter, John Mayer, and B.B. King. Multiple songs by The Record Company have been featured on television shows and in commercials, including: “Love Train” (in a 2012 Coors Light commercial): “Ain’t Love Warm” and “Feels So Good” (both featured in the television series Suits); “Baby I'm Broken” (in an episode of CSI: Crime Scene); and “I Want Change” (featured in an episode of Nashville.)
The Record Company is a band on the rise and clearly one to watch in the coming years. Rolling Stone recently named the band as one of their “10 New Artists You Need to Know,” and additional praise has come from The Huffington Post and Entertainment Weekly. The Record Company most recently performed “Off the Ground” and “Baby I’m Broken” on CBS This Morning in May of 2017.
