Clint Black was born Clinton Patrick Black in 1962 in Long Branch, New Jersey, but his family moved to Texas while he was still an infant, and so he was brought up in Houston. While still a teenager, Clint began experimenting with singing and learned to play the guitar and harmonica. After leaving high school in the early 1980’s, Clint Black worked a variety of odd jobs until a demo of his material made its way into the hands of the record executives at RCA.
Black’s debut album, Killin’ Time, arrived in 1989 and on the strength of its first single, “A Better Man,” rose to the top of the country charts almost immediately. Within a short period of time, five of the album’s singles had hit the number one spot on the charts and the album had certified platinum. Since that auspicious beginning, Clint Black has released nearly an album every year, including: Put Yourself in My Shoes (1990), The Hard Way (1992), No Time to Kill (1993), One Emotion (1994), Nothin’ but the Taillights (1997), D’lectrified (1999), Spend My Time (2004), Drinkin’ Songs and Other Logic (2005), and his final studio album, The Love Songs (2007.)
As his music career quickly took off, Clint Black also began to appear in a number of films, beginning with Maverick in 1994. Since that time he has also appeared in Still Holding On: The Legend of Cadillac Jack (1998), Going Home (2000), Anger Management (2003), Flicka 2 (2010), and Flicka: Country Pride (2012.) He has also participated in the television show Nashville Star, in the role of participant mentor, and appeared on the shows: Las Vegas, Coming Home, Celebrity Apprentice, and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. His acting roles certainly do not eclipse his achievements in music, though, and Clint Black has been recognized with awards for Album of the Year, Top Male Vocalist, Single of the Year, Favorite Country New Artist, and Male Vocalist of the Year by the Academy of Country Music, American Music Awards, and the Country Music Association.
Although he has not released a new studio album since 2007, Clint Black has so far in his career accumulated thirteen number one hits, with thirty charting singles in total in his career that spans two decades. He continues to act and occasionally perform.
