The American singer and actress Solange Piaget Knowles was born in 1986 in Houston, Texas. Solange and her famous sister, Beyonce, grew up studying music and dance, and the two girls performed together for awhile with Destiny’s Child while on tour. Solange opted to pursue a career as a solo performer, however, signing with Columbia records and releasing her debut album, Solo Star, in 2003.
Solo Star set the stage for her sophomore effort, So-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams, in 2008. Both albums were moderately successful, but in 2006 Solange found another outlet for her creative talents, appearing in the film Bring it On: All or Nothing. In 2012, she returned to her roots as a musician, releasing a video for the song “Losing You,” scheduled to appear on her third album. A few months later, Solange released the EP True, and in 2013, she launched Saint Records, her own record label, through which she will continue to release new material in the coming years. In recent years, Solange Knowles has also performed a number of times as a DJ, spinning for such events as the Academy Awards’ Governors Ball and the Kiehl’s launch party in London. Her talents have earned her an nomination for a Golden Spin Award for Celebrity DJ.
When not pursuing her numerous endeavors in music and film, Solange Knowles continues to promote her pre-school toy line, Baby Jamz and the Knowles family clothing line, House of Dereon, a role she shares with her sister Beyonce. Solange Knowles recently re-entered the studio to put the finishing touches on her third studio album, scheduled for release in late 2015 or early 2016.
