Chef Alain Ducasse was born in France and grew up in the southwestern area of the country. Today, Ducasse is known for his world-renowned restaurants throughout the globe, but long before he rose to prominence, Alain began his apprenticeship in the culinary arts at the Pavillon Landais restaurants in Soustons. After completing his studies, Ducasse spent the next few years working for a number of legendary chefs, mastering the art of Provencal cooking methods.
In the mid 1980’s, Ducasse accepted the position of chef at the Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo. Between 1986 and 2000, Alain Ducasse opened a number of other restaurants in the country, earning star-studded reviews from around the globe and his first Michelin stars. In 2000, he came to the United States to open the Alain Ducasse restaurant in the Essex House in New York City, and then the restaurant Mix in Las Vegas. By the late 2000’s, Alain Ducasse had become the first chef to boast three Michelin Stars for restaurants in three different cities simultaneously.
Today, Alain Ducasse’s restaurants are among the world’s most renowned and Ducasse himself is among the world’s most well-respect chefs. In addition to overseeing his various restaurants in France, England, the United States, Italy, and Japan, Ducasse has opened his own cooking schools and authored a number of books for aspiring chefs, including the Alain Ducasse Culinary Encyclopedia. Ducasse currently holds twenty-one Michelin stars; he was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants List.
