Chef Cat Cora was born in 1967 in Jackson, Mississippi. Today, Cat is most recognizable for her featured role on the Food Network’s reality show competition, Iron Chef America, but her rise as a chef begins with her family. Cora was born into a family of Greek American restaurateurs, who supported Cat’s aspirations and helped her begin her journey to become a culinary expert.
Cat Cora graduated from the Culinary Institute of America (after first receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Southern Mississippi.) But her journey to television began in 2004, when the Food Network offered Cat an opportunity to host the new series, Kitchen Accomplished. The show only lasted for one season, but led immediately to Cora’s position as a featured chef on the network’s Iron Chef America, the role with which she is still most frequently associated today.
Cora remained with Iron Chef America until 2012, but between 2005 and 2012 she also appeared on nearly a dozen other shows for the network, either as host or judge, including: Celebrity Cooking Showdown, The Next Food Network Star, The Next Iron Chef, Top Chef, Around the World in 80 Plates, America’s Best Cook, and Cutthroat Kitchen.
Today, Cat Cora can be seen on the Food Network’s shows, The Best Thing I Ever Ate, and Guy’s Grocery Games. She is also known for her airport bar and lounge restaurants, named simply “Cat Cora,” in the San Francisco Airport and the Bush Intercontinental Airport. Her Singapore restaurant, The Ocean Restaurant at the S.E.A. Aquarium at Resorts World Sentosa, opened in 2013. The restaurant featured the world’s largest oceanarium with sea views from all tables.
