The American chef and television personality Carla Hall was born in 1964 in Nashville, Tennessee. Today Carla is best known as one of the co-hosts of the daytime talk show The Chew, but long before she rose to prominence on television Hall graduated from Howard University in 1986. At first, she went to work as an accountant, before deciding in 1988 that she wanted to pursue a career as a model.
It was in the European cities of London, Paris, and Milan that Carla Hall says she first discovered her love of cuisine. After returning to the United States, Hall settled in Washington, D.C., where she began her first business – the Lunch Bunch, a lunch delivery service. After graduating from L’Academie de Cuisine, Hall went on to work as a sous chef in the Henley Park Hotel, and then later at the State Plaza. By the turn of the millennium, Carla had launched her own catering company, which she still oversees today.
In 2008, Carla Hall was chosen to compete on the reality competition Top Chef, and she quickly rose to become a favorite on the show. After the show concluded, Hall went on to join the cast of Top Chef: All-Stars, finishing 5th in the competition but winning for “fan favorite.”
Today, Carla Hall is known as one of the co-hosts of The Chew; she has been with the cast since 2011. Most recently, she launched her own restaurant in Brooklyn. The restaurant, Carla Hall’s Southern Kitchen, opened in the summer of 2016.
