Italian- American chef Giada De Laurentiis was born in 1970 in Rome, Italy. Giada’s parents were both actors, so it’s little surprise that she would grow up to become comfortable in front of the camera. But her first love was found in the family kitchen and in her grandfather’s restaurant. But after moving to California following her parents’ divorce, De Laurentiis finished high school and initially sought an education outside of entertainment or the culinary world, earning her B.A. in Social Anthropology from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Although most of Giada’s family members worked in the Los Angeles film industry, Giada decided to return to Europe to study pastry cuisine in Paris, at Le Cordon Bleu. After completing her studies, she returning to the United States to work in a number of high-profile restaurants, including Wolfgang Puck’s Spago; her talents in the kitchen earned her significant press coverage, and after a featured piece on her cooking was included in Food & Wine Magazine, the Food Network offered Giada her own daytime cooking show.
Everyday Italian premiered in 2003, and quickly became one of the network’s most successful shows. Giada, in turn, become one of the most recognizable faces in the culinary world. Since the show’s premiere, Giada has gone on to host Giada’s Weekend Getaways, Giada in Paradise, Giada at Home, and appear on Iron Chef America and The Next Food Network Star. Her appearances earned her a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lifestyle Host in 2008.
Most recently, Giada De Laurentiis opened The Cromwell in Las Vegas, her first restaurant. In addition to her television appearances, Giada has also authored eight cookbooks, including the best-selling Giada at Home: Family Recipes from Italy and California (2010) and Weekends with Giada: Quick and Simple Recipes to Revamp Dinner (2012.)
