Anita Ward was born in 1957 and rose to fame as the performer who recorded the hit song “Ring My Bell,” which reached the top of the charts in 1979. Before launching her career as a performer, Anita graduated from Rust College with a degree in psychology and originally had aspirations to pursue a career teaching the subject. However, a chance opportunity to record the song, included on her very first album, completely changed everything for Ward, and she instead went on to become an icon performer of the disco era.
During her heyday, Anita Ward gave audiences three albums: Songs of Love (1979), Sweet Surrender (1979), and Wherever There’s Love (1989.) The albums featured the additional songs “Don’t Drop My Love,” “Cover Me,” “Be My Baby,” and “It’s My Night.” Although the peak of her career was short-lived, Ward continues to perform her hit “Ring My Bell” to adoring fans around the world, and she re-entered the studio in 2011 to work on another studio album, her first in over twenty years.
The result of that effort was Anita Ward’s album It’s My Night, featuring the title track as the first release. Ward has additional plans for future albums and performances in the coming years.
