Frankie Beverly was born in 1946 in Philadelphia. As a child, the young Frankie sang gospel in the local church choir, and he later sang for the Silhouettes when he was a teenager. He formed a doo-wop, a cappella group called the Blenders, as a young man, and then later the Butlers. It was with the Butlers that Beverly garnered the attention of a record producer and the group moved to California to begin recording.
Frankie Beverly and the Butlers changed their name to Raw Soul and after earning some support from Marvin Gaye, changed their name to Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. Maze served as a supporting act for Gaye while on tour, and began to build some recognition. Ultimately, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly enjoyed nearly ten gold albums, thirty hit singles and nine Top 10 singles, including "Running Away," "Love Is The Key," "Back In Stride," "Too Many Games," "Can't Get Over You," and "Silky Soul."
Maze featuring Frankie Beverly continues to perform and record. On stage, Frankie’s trademark of all-white clothes has become part of his distinguishing “look,” although it is his voice that has kept Maze in the spotlight for more than three decades.
