American gospel singer Bobby Jones was born in 1939 in Henry, Tennessee. Jones began his career as a television host for a local Nashville station in the mid 1970’s, which launched his career as both producer and singer. His first Sunday morning show, Nashville Gospel, remained on air for nearly three decades, making Bobby Jones one of the nation’s most recognized and beloved gospel singers of the era.
Since 1980, Bobby Jones had produced a number of high-ranking programs for the BET channel, in addition to a number of shows for the Word Network and Gospel Music Channel. His shows have launched the careers of many gospel singers, including Yolanda Adams, Mary Mary, and Kirk Franklin. When not appearing on television, Jones’s radio shows such as Bobby Jones Gospel Countdown and Bobby Jones Radio Show can be heard on American Urban Radio Networks and Sheridan Gospel Network.
In addition to his work producing and hosting on the small screen, Bobby Jones is also a Grammy Award winning vocalist, having earned the Grammy for Best Soul Gospel Performance by a Duo or Group for his duet “I’m So Glad I’m Standing Here Today,” recorded with Barbara Mandrell. Additional awards include three Stellar Awards and a Dove Award. Jones has also published two books; one, his memoir, Make A Joyful Noise (2000), and the other, Touched By God (199), a collection of spiritual stories by gospel artists.
Bobby Jones continues to record, perform, and host. He continues to host and produce the television show Bobby Jones Gospel for BET. The show airs every Sunday morning at 9am.
