As a cast member on Deadliest Catch, Josh Harris served for many years as a deckhand on board the Cornelia Marie, once captained by his father, Captain Phil. Although only in his late twenties and with minimal actual years experience at sea, Josh and his brother Jacob both recently found themselves captaining the Cornelia Marie after their father suffered a pulmonary embolism and unfortunately passed away.
The loss of Phil Harris was documented on the July 20th, 2010 episode of Deadliest Catch, which was also followed by a special tribute episode. Phil’s passing was a shock to audiences and his family alike, but he had prepared Josh and his brother well to advance to greater responsibility on the Cornelia Marie.
Phil had been taught to fish by his father when he was still in elementary school, and by the time he’d finished high school he’d entered the crab fishing business as his full-time profession. His talents for fishing and his passion for the Cornelia Marie were passed on to Josh and his brother, preparing them well to continue the family business after his passing.
Josh most recently invested nearly a million dollars into the Cornelia Marie for upgrades to some of the most state-of-the-art features. As the next captain of the boat, he is determined to rise to the occasion and honor his father’s memory with continued success on the Cornelia Marie.
