The American dancer and actor Mark Ballas was born in 1986 in Texas. Ballas rose to prominence when he joined the dance team on the hit ABC reality competition Dancing with the Stars in 2007. But long before that, Mark grew up in the Houston area, until at the young age of eleven he moved to London to attend the prestigious Italia Conti Academy of Theater Arts.
Before joining the cast of Dancing with the Stars, Mark Ballas competed in the British Open, the US Open, and the International Open. He first forayed into the world of entertainment on the stage, appearing as Tony in the musical Copacabana. Other notable stage performances include Buddy, The Buddy Holly Story, and Maria de Buenos Aires.
In 2007, Mark Ballas joined the dancing team on Dancing with the Stars, being paired for his first competition with actress Sabrina Bryan. In the following season, Ballas was partnered with figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi, and the duo went on to win the series that year. Ballas went on again to win in the eighth season (with Shawn Johnson), and finish in third place with Bristol Palin for season eleven. Ballas remained with the show through season twenty-two, but left the show for its twenty-third season.
Most recently, Mark Ballas joined the cast of the Broadway show Jersey Boys for its final season. Ballas is also a singer-songwriter; he released his first CD, HurtLoveBox, in March of 2011.
