American singer-songwriter Holly Audrey Williams was born in 1981 in Cullman, Alabama. That Holly would grow up to become a musician is no surprise; her grandfather was legendary musician Hank Williams Sr. and her father Hank Williams, Jr. By the time she was in her late teens, Holly had learned to play her father’s guitars, and she began writing her own music. After graduation, Williams decided to pursue a career as a performer, signing with CAA and performing a number of shows throughout the country.
Holly Williams independently released her debut EP in 2003, and began to tour in support of such high-profile musician as Keith Urban, Kasey Chambers, and Jewel in support of it. In the year following, Holly signed with Universal South and released her debut feature album, The Ones We Never Knew. Although the album didn’t chart in the United States, it earned Williams significant critical acclaim, and set the stage for her follow-up, Here with Me.
Here with Me became Holly Williams’s big breakthrough; the album rose into the top forty on the country charts in the United States and earned Holly praise from People magazine and Billboard, which hailed Williams as “one of the best singer/songwriter albums to come out of Nashville” in recent years. Throughout 2009, Holly Williams performed on a number of talk shows — including Chelsea Lately, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, and Jimmy Kimmel Live — performing the singles “Keep the Change” and “Mama.”
Holly Williams is a country music star on the rise and definitely one to watch in the coming years. Her latest album, The Highway (2013), is her most successful to date, rising into the top twenty on the country charts in the United States, and cracking into the mainstream charts as well.
