The indie folk band known as Lord Huron was established in Los Angeles in 2010 by founding member Ben Schneider. Schneider had grown up in Michigan, and after graduating with his degree in art, he moved first to France, then New York City, and then finally Los Angeles. Lord Huron was initially started as a solo project; Schneider wrote and recorded its first songs completely on his own.
After teaming up with musicians Peter Mowry, Brett Farkas, and Karl Kerfoot, Schneider established Lord Huron as a group; they released their debut full-length album, Lonesome Dreams, in 2012, featuring the single “Ends of the Earth.” Performances on programs such as The Tonight Show followed, and the band got a big boost when their music began featuring in a number of high profile television shows, including Girls (“Fool for Love”), Shameless (“Ends of the Earth”), and The Flash (“The Night We Met.”) The song “Louisa” was also featured in the 2015 movie Freeheld, and multiple songs (“She Lit a Fire,” “Ends of the Earth,” “Brother,” and “The Ghost on the Shore”) are featured in the film A Walk in the Woods.
Lord Huron is just getting started, and is definitely one to watch in the coming years. The band continues to perform and record with the current lineup of Schneider, Mark Barry, Miguel Briseno, and Tom Renaud. Lord Huron just recently released their second album, Strange Trails, in 2016. The album debuted in the top twenty on the mainstream charts in the United States and at the number one spot on the Folk Album charts.
