The American pop act known as Bleachers was established in New York City by musician Jack Antonoff, using Bleachers as his official stage name. Inspired largely by the 1980’s films of John Hughes, Antonoff started writing his own music while on the road with his band, Fun, in between gigs. After the release of the chart-topping song “I Wanna Get Better,” Antonoff launched a heavy online social presence for Bleachers, marking the official start to his new act.
“I Wanna Get Better” rose to the number one spot on the alternative charts in the United States, and fared equally well on the Rock charts, rising into the top ten.
The full-length debut Strange Desire, via RCA Records, followed; it was well-received both commercially and critically. The year 2015 saw Bleachers embark on a headlining tour, alongside Joywave and Night Terrors of 1927 as opening acts, before releasing the follow-up album, The album Terrible Thrills, Vol. 2.
Since that time, Bleachers has also released the additional singles “Don’t Take the Money,” “Hate That You Know Me,” and “Everybody Lost Somebody.” The band was also featured in the film Hello, My Name is Doris, in 2015. Bleachers’ most recent album, Gone Now, arrived in June of 2017. Clearly, this is an act on the rise and one to watch in the coming years.
