The English actor Charlie Hunnam was born in 1980 in Newcastle upon Tyne. Hunnam graduated from Cumbria College of Art and Design and was accidentally discovered at the age of seventeen after being spotted by a production manager for a local television show. The meeting was fortuitous, as it turned out that Charlie had a knack for acting, and he was cast in a small role on Byker Grove for three episodes, launching his career.
Byker Grove was followed by Hunnam’s breakthrough as Nathan Maloney on Queer as Folk, followed by a role in the movie Whatever Happened to Harold Smith? Recurring roles on television shows such as Young Americans and Undeclared were followed by film roles in Abandon (2002), Nicholas Nickleby (2002), and Cold Mountain (2003), and Charlie Hunnam relocated to Los Angeles to further increase his acting opportunities.
A role in the film Children of Men followed in 2006, but in 2008 Charlie Hunnam secured the role with which he is most known today, as Jax Teller on Sons of Anarchy. Hunnam’s critically acclaimed performance has led to multiple award nominations, including one from the Critics’ Choice Television Awards and another from the PAAFTJ Awards.
Most recently, Charlie authored the screenplay Vlad, which was recently picked up by Plan B for production, and he appeared in the films The Ledge (2011) and Pacific Rim (2013.)
