Regina King is an American performer born in 1971. She was born in Los Angeles and raised within the View Park-Windsor Hills community. King would attend the University of Southern California and soon pursued acting in 1985, earning roles in television series and many of John Singleton’s early films such as Boyz n the Hood.
Regina King had a breakout year in 1996 when she landed a role in the Tom Cruise film Jerry Maguire. She would star in numerous films from then on into the mid-2000s before she landed a lead role voicing multiple characters in the animated show The Boondocks. She would continue to star in notable television works and recently had another major appearance in the 2018 film If Beale Street Could Talk.
Regina King’s television career includes multiple nominations for Golden Globe Awards and multiple Emmy Award wins for her role in American Crime. Her performance in If Beale Street Could Talk earned her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress as well as a Golden Globe. Regina Kinghas been featured in major publications such as Rolling Stone and NPR, among others, and has appeared on talk shows such as Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
Regina King recently directed her first film, One Night in Miami, which received critical acclaim and a world premiere courtesy of the Venice Film Festival.
