The actress Drea de Matteo was born in 1972 in Queens, New York. Young Drea grew up in an Italian American household and was greatly influenced by her mother’s career as a playwright and screenwriting teacher. De Matteo fell in love with the dramatic arts as a teenager, initially pursuing a career as a director and studying at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. However, after earning her breakthrough role as Adriana La Cerva on the hit HBO series The Sopranos, her career path took a different turn and her life as an actress was launched.
Drea de Matteo’s performance on the show was a stand-out. Playing the girlfriend and later, fiancée, of Sopranos family mobster Christopher Moltisanti, Drea quickly became a show favorite and earned herself an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. De Matteo remained with the show until its series finale, but while shooting on the Sopranos she also appeared in a number of films, including: Swordfish (2001), Assault on Precinct 13 (2005), Broken English (2007), and New York, I Love You (2009.) Drea De Matteo also enjoyed a recurring roles on the television shows Joey (2004-2006, in the role of Joey’s sister) and Desperate Housewives (2009-2010), and appeared in episodes of CSI: Miami, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, and Californication.
Currently, Drea De Matteo can be seen on the FX series Sons of Anarchy in the role of Wendy Case. She also recently appeared in the 2013 film Free Ride and in the 2014 film Dark Places in the role of Krissi Cates.
