The actor Matthew Morrison was born in 1978 in California, and grew up in the LA area. Before Matthew rose to fame in the role of Will Schuester on the hit television series Glee, he spent his formative years studying at the Orange County High School of the Arts. After briefly attending New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Morrison dropped out of his studies to accept a breakthrough role in the Broadway version of Footloose.
Footloose led to Matthew’s roles in a number of other Broadway shows, including Hairspray, which became the stage role with which he is most frequently associated. Morrison also appeared in The Light in the Piazza, for which he earned a Tony nomination, and 10 Million Miles, for which he earned a Drama Desk nomination.
By the late 2000’s, he had also appeared in episodes of the the television series: Law & Order: Criminal Intent and CSI: Miami and in recurring roles on As the World Turns and Ghost Whisperer. On the big screen, Morrison appeared in: Marci X, Once Upon a Mattress, Blinders, Music and Lyrics, Dan in Real Life, and What to Expect When You’re Expecting. He was even offered a gig as a member of the boy band LMNT, which didn’t last, but eventually led to Matthew’s pursuit of a career as a solo recording artist.
In 2009, Matthew Morrison began his run on the series Glee in the role of Will Schuester, which began the role he is still most frequently known for today. For his performance, Morrison has received dozens of industry award nominations, including Screen Actors Guide Awards, Emmy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and People’s Choice Awards.
Most recently, Matthew Morrison has signed a recording deal with Mercury Records as a solo artist, releasing his debut album, Matthew Morrison, in 2011. The album reached into the top forty on the US mainstream charts, and featured the singles: “Summer Rain” and “Still Got Tonight.” The follow-up album, Where it All Began, was released in 2013.
