Jeffrey Osborne was born in 1948 in Providence, Rhode Island, one of twelve children in a very large musical family. As a trumpeter, his father performed with legends such as Duke Ellington and Count Basie, but he passed away when Jeffrey was barely a teenager. The young Osborne embarked on his own career with the band L.T.D., which he began in 1970. After ten years with the band, during which time they scored a number of hits (“Every time I Turn Around (Back In Love Again)" and "Holdin' On”), Jeffrey Osborne left the band and embarked on a solo career.
Jeffrey Osborne released his solo album in 1982. He immediately hit the charts with the singles “On The Wings Of Love" & "I Really Don't Need No Light.” Stay with Me Tonight followed in 1983, and on the strength of the singles “Don’t You Get So Mad” and “Stay with Me Tonight,” the album went gold. For the remainder of the decade and into the 1990’s, Osborne released a series of successful albums, including: Don’t Stop (1984), Emotional (1986), One Love: One Dream (1988), Only Human (1990), the seasonal album Something Warm for Christmas (1997), and a compilation album, Ultimate Collection (1999.)
While his albums began to struggle in the late 1990’s, in the new millennium, Jeffrey Osborne made a comeback with That’s for Sure (2000), Music is Life (2003), and From the Soul (2005), each of which spawned a single or two which made it to the Adult R&B charts. He has continued to perform and record, most recently appearing at the NBA Finals and to sing the national anthem and on the season finale of The Bachelor to sing his hit “On the Wings of Love.”
