Peabo Bryson was born in 1951 in South Carolina. As a child, Peabo was highly influenced by his mother, who frequently took her children to live performances and sparked an early love of such artists as Billie Holiday and Little Richard. Young Bryson knew from the time he was a child that he wanted to be a singer, and so by the age of fourteen, he began singing backup with a local band. Following the independent release of his first album, Peabo, in 1977 Bryson signed on with Capital Records and launched would become a stellar music career lasting well into the new millennium.
Although Peabo Bryson released a number of solo albums, he became most famous for his hit singles, often duets alongside some of music industry’s greatest. Notable works from Bryson include: “Beauty and the Beast,” alongside Dion Booking Agent & Management" href="https://www.bookingentertainment.com/artists/adult/Celine_ Dion.php">Celine Dion; “The Gift” and “Tonight I Celebrate My Love,” with Roberta Flack; “A Whole New World,” and “Without You,” alongside Regina Belle; “Lovers After All,” with Melissa Manchester; “By the Time This Night is Over,” accompanied by Kenny G; and “I Have Dreamed,” alongside Lea Salonga. Both “Beauty and the Beast” and “A Whole New World” were composed for Disney films, and both garnered Peabo Bryson Grammy Awards (in 1992 and 1993.)
Most recently, Peabo Bryson took the stage in the Michigan Opera Theater’s version of Porgy and Bess. He continues to record and perform.
