The R&B singer Phil Perry was born in 1952 in Springfield, Illinois. Perry rose to fame as a member of the Montclairs, an R&B/soul group which recorded in the early 1970’s and gave the era the songs "Begging’s Hard to Do," "Prelude to a Heartbreak," and "Dreaming’s Out of Season." After the Montclairs disbanded in 1975, Perry moved on to a number of solo projects for the next few decades, until the early 1990’s, when he experienced his first real breakthrough as an R&B artist.
In 1991, Phil Perry released his first genuine solo endeavor, The Heart of a Man, and the debut was a surprise hit. The album spawned the hits "Call Me," "Forever," and "Amazing Love," and set the stage for a succession of albums to follow, including: Pure Pleasure (1994), My Book of Love (2000), Classic Love Songs (2006), A Mighty Love (2007), and The Gift of Love (2009.) A hiatus between 2001 and 2006 was the result of a strange turn of events for Phil; having been scheduled to appear in performance at the World Trade Center on September 11th of 2001, a shift in his schedule actually led to his life being spared in the tragic event. The impact of the experience was devastating to Phil Perry, and it would be five years before he would record again.
Phil Perry bounced back, though, and has continued to perform and record since. His most recent album, Say Yes, was released in 2013.
