The American singer and songwriter Conor Oberst was born in 1980 in Nebraska. Oberst grew up in Omaha, where he entered the music world at an incredibly young age; by the time he was in his early teens he was writing and recording his own music in his parent’s basement on a four-track recording system.
Conor’s self-released debut album, Water, was released in 1993 via cassette tape, but before launching a solo career, Oberst instead joined the band Commander Venus. Conor would go on to perform with multiple bands in the 90’s and early 2000’s, including: The Magnetas, Park Ave., Bright Eyes, Desaparecidos, Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, and Monsters of Folk. With each of these bands, Oberst experienced moderate success, but it was his self-titled solo album in 2008 which brought him into the mainstream, rising to the top five on the rock charts and into the top twenty on the mainstream charts in the United States. The album also earned Conor a nod from Rolling Stone as the year’s Best Songwriter.
Since that time, Conor Oberst has released the additional successful albums: Outer South (2009), Upside Down Mountain (2014), and Ruminations (2016.) Oberst continues to perform as a solo artist and also as a featured artist in various bands. His most recent album, Salutations, arrived in the spring of 2017.
