The American rock group Neon Trees was established in Provo, Utah in the late 2000’s by founding members Chris Allen and Tyler Glenn. Allen and Glenn had met while growing up in Murrieta, California, where they shared a love of music. After moving to Utah, the duo teamed up with Elaine Bradley and Branden Campbell to round out Neon Trees’ lineup and release a debut EP, Becoming Different People.
The EP garnered the group some attention after its release in 2006, ultimately bringing them to Mercury Records. After signing with the label, Neon Trees released its major label debut on the Mercury/Def Jam label. The album, Habits, spawned the single “Animal,” and Neon Trees embarked on an extensive promotional tour in its support, performing on nearly every late-night show (including Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.)
Habits has since been followed by the albums Picture Show (2012) and Pop Psychology (2014.) The albums fared even better than Neon Trees’ debut, rising into the top twenty on the mainstream charts in the United States and into the five on the alternative charts, with Pop Psychology reaching the number one spot. Notable singles from Neon Trees include: “1983,” “Your Surrender,” “Everybody Talks,” “Lessons in Love,” “Sleeping with a Friend,” and “Text Me in the Morning.” In 2014, Neon Trees also contributed the acoustic version of the song “Mad Love” to the Dallas Buyers Club soundtrack.
Neon Trees is a band on the rise and definitely one to watch in the coming years. The group recently released the single “Songs I Can’t Listen To” in 2015.
