The American singer-songwriter Moses Sumney was born in 1990 in California. Sumney returned to his parents’ native Ghana when he was ten years old, where he found adjusting to life outside of America challenging. As a teenager, Moses developed an interest in music, writing his own songs and learning to play a variety of instruments.
After graduating from high school, Sumney returned to Los Angeles to attend the University of California and to begin pursuit of a career as a musician. Moses released his debut EP, Mid-City Island, in 2014, earning praise from critics. Since that time, he has also released the EP Lamentations (2016) and his first full-length album, Aromanticism (2017.) The album features the singles “Doomed,” “Quarrel,” and “Indulge Me,” and earned accolades from prestigious publications such as the New York Times, which tapped it as one of 2017’s best albums.
Moses Sumney is an artist just getting started. After Aromanticism, he spent most of 2017 touring in support of the album, performing at multiple festivals and venues, including End of the Road Festival and Essence Music Festival. He has plans to return to the studio in 2018 to prepare for his next album.
