Grace Potter and the Nocturnals was formed in 2002 after musician Matthew Burr caught a performance by a young Grace Potter and asked her if she’d be interested in starting a band. Potter had been studying music at the university level and was already a talented vocalist and multi-instrumentalist when the Nocturnals was formed, and after accepting Burr’s invitation, the two added Scott Tournet to the lineup and created the trio as the foundation for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. Their self-released debut, Nothing But the Water, was released in 2005 and began to receive airplay, garnering the attention of Hollywood Records, which signed Grace Potter and the Nocturnals in 2005.
This is Somewhere followed in 2007, and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals began touring alongside Gov’t Mule later that year. The album spawned the singles “Apologies” and “Falling or Flyin,” which were featured on a number of hit television shows, including One Tree Hill, ER, Brothers & Sisters, and Grey’s Anatomy, further bringing Grace Potter to national attention. A tour alongside the Black Crowes followed in the next year, and then came performances on a number of television talk shows, including the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
Since then, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals have released the studio albums Grace Potter and the Nocturnals (2010) and Lion the Beast the Beat (2012), featuring the hit single “Paris (Ooh La La),” and the live albums Live in Skowhegan (2008) and Live from the Legendary Sun Studio (2012.) Grace Potter’s music has found its way into a variety of films, including Almost Alice (the soundtrack for the film Alice in Wonderland) and the Disney film Tangled. The song “Paris (Ooh La La)” has also been featured on the television show Rizzoli & Isles.
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals continue to perform and record with the current lineup of Grace Potter, Matt Burr, Scott Tournet, Benny Yurco, and Michael Libramento.
