The rock band Gaslight Anthem was founded in New Jersey in 2006, after Brian Fallon, member of the band This Charming Man, experienced a number of changes to the group’s lineup and eventually teamed up with Mike Volpe, Alex Levine, and Benny Horowitz before changing their name to the Gaslight Anthem.
After one more change (the departure of Mike Volpe and addition of Alex Rosamilia) the band rounded out its lineup as it exists today and released their debut album, Sink or Swim (2007.) Following Sink or Swim, the Gaslight Anthem released The ’59 Sound (2008), American Slang (2010), and Handwritten (2012), giving audiences the alternative singles “The ’59 Sound,” “Old White Lincoln,” “Great Expectations,” “The Backseat,” “American Slang,” “Bring it On,” “The Spirit of Jazz,” and “45.”
With a sound often described as “New Jersey punk,” the Gaslight Anthem pulls its musical influences from a variety of performers, including Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, and the Replacements, although the band finds it hard to define themselves or identify with one specific genre. Currently, the Gaslight Anthem has returned to the studio to prepare for their next album release, set for 2014, and they have recently performed at dozens of high-profile music festivals, including: Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, Reading and Leeds, Southside, and Austin City Limits. The Gaslight Anthem also recently signed to Mercury Records, their first major label since the band’s inception.
