After graduating from high school in Virginia, Jason Mraz set his sights for New York, where he attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. After only one year, though, he began honing his talents on the guitar and set his course for a career in music. Mraz eventually found himself in San Diego at the turn of the millennium, where he joined Carlos Olmeda (guitar) and Toco Rivera (percussion) for regular gigs around town in local coffeehouses. Mraz developed a strong following, and soon local record labels came calling.
Jason Mraz signed to Elektra Records in 2002, and began work on his debut album. Backed by a band he knew in high school, the Agents of Good Roots, Waiting for my Rocket to Come was released in 2002. The album hit the top of the charts and went platinum in 2004. He gained further recognition by opening for Alanis Morrissette on her tour in 2005, and in that same year he released his second album, Mr. A-Z.
A Grammy nomination for the album followed, and since that time, Jason Mraz has released the additional albums: We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things (2008), Love is a Four Letter Word (2012), and Yes! (2014), earning the artist additional Grammy award nominations for a variety of cateogories, including Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.
Jason Mraz continues to perform and record with no signs of slowing down. He recently completed an extensive tour before entering the studio to prepare for his next studio album.
