The English songwriter Dave Mason was born in 1946 in Worcester. Long before he co-founded the band Traffic, Mason began studying and perfecting his guitar playing skills alongside friend Jimi Hendrix, performing with some of the 1960’s and 1970’s most notable artists, including the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton.
After leaving Traffic in the early 1970’s, Dave Mason launched a solo career, releasing the album Alone Together in 1970, featuring the singles “Little Woman” and “Just for You.” A series of albums followed for the next fifteen years, including: Headkeeper (1972), It’s Like You Never Left (1973), Dave Mason (1974), Split Coconut (1975), Old Crest on a New Wave (1980), and Two Hearts (1987.) The albums spawned the mainstream and adult contemporary hits “We Just Disagree,” “Let it Go, Let it Flow,” “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?,” “Save Me,” and “Dreams I Dream,” the last of which was recorded as a duet with Phoebe Snow.
Throughout the 1990’s, Dave Mason also performed alongside such notables as Fleetwood Mac and Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band. Dave Mason continues to perform and record into the new millennium, having released the compilation 26 Letters – 12 Notes in 2008. He established the Dave Mason Band in the new millennium also, and performs up to one hundred shows a year across the nation. In addition, Mason is an active supporter of a variety of philanthropic endeavors, particularly those which promote music education and holistic approaches to substance abuse.
Dave Mason continues to perform and record. His latest EP, Pink Lipstick, arrived in 2017.
