The English singer and songwriter Dua Lipa was born in 1995. Dua grew up in London, where she was inspired by her father’s career as a singer. By the time she was a teenager, Lipa was performing her covers of various top forty artists on YouTube, earning a growing fan base and interesting record labels around the world.
Dua eventually signed with Warner Music Group in 2015, releasing her debut single, “New Love,” shortly thereafter. Her second single, “Be the One,” was her first to chart successfully, reaching into the top ten throughout Europe. The singles “Last Dance,” “Hotter than Hell,” and “Blow Your Mind” followed, with the later being Lipa’s first to chart in the United States. In advance her her debut album, Dua Lipa hit the road for two tours—the 2016 UK Tour and then the Hotter than Hell Tour later that year.
Lipa’s self-titled debut album arrived in 2017, and was an international success. The album charted in the top five in the UK, in the top ten in Australia, Belgium, and Ireland, but also peaked at the number fifty-seven spot in the United States. It spawned the hit singles “Scared to Be Lonely” and “New Rules,” the latter of which became Dua’s first top twenty singles in the United States.
Clearly, Dua Lipa is a young star on the rise and one to watch in the coming years. She recently wrapped an extensive tour in support of Bruno Mars, followed by her own Self-Titled Tour. Lipa has also been recognized with multiple industry award nominations, as a female artist and as a newcomer, with a BBC Radio Teen Award win for Best Single (“New Rules.”) She also recently appeared as a featured artist on Sean Paul’s hit single, “No Lie,”
