The singer and songwriter Ingrid Michaelson was born in 1979 in New York. Ingrid grew up in an artistic and musical household; her her mother is a sculptor and father is composer, so it was no surprise when Michaelson began playing piano while in elementary school. Throughout her youth, Ingrid studied performance and composition at some of Manhattan’s most notable music schools and institutes, and she also participated in a number of theater repertory companies. For awhile, it was uncertain if Ingrid was going to pursue a career as a theater actress or as a musician, but by the mid 2000’s, Michaelson had set her sights on a career as a musician.
Ingrid Michaelson released her own independent debut, Slow the Rain, in 2005. The album earned Ingrid some accolades, but it was her sophomore effort, Girls and Boys, which garnered her the attention she’d been looking for. After one of her songs was featured in the hit series Grey’s Anatomy, significant buzz eventually piqued the interest of Original Signal Recordings; Michaelson signed with the label shortly thereafter and re-released Girls and Boys with some mainstream marketing power behind her.
Since that time, Ingrid Michaelson has released multiple albums, including: Be OK (2008), Everybody (2009), Human Again (2012), and Lights Out (2014.) Hit singles from the albums include: “The Way I Am,” “Be OK,” “Maybe,” “Everybody,” “ Ghost,” and “Girls Chase Boys.” The song “Winter Song,” performed alongside Sara Bareilles, also brought Michaelson significant acclaim.
Ingrid Michaelson continues to perform and record. Her most recent album, It Doesn’t Have to Make Sense, arrived in 2016.
