Casey Martinx Biography

The American professional golfer Casey Martin was born in 1972 in Eugene, Oregon. Martin rose to prominence in the sport of golf in the 1990’s, around the same time as his former Stanford University teammate, Tiger Woods, was taking the country by storm. While at Stanford, Casey Martin as a three-time all Pac-10 and excelled as a player, and his career continued on the upswing after turning professional.

Highlights of Casey’s career include winning the Sahalee Players Championship in 1993 just before turning pro in 1995. Casey won the Nike Tour in 1998, and joined the University of Oregon’s men’s golf team as head coach in 2006. Although Martin’s career brought him moderate success as a player, he continues to play and recently qualified for the PGA tour in 2012, despite numerous obstacles, most notably a birth defect (Klippel Trenaunay Weber syndrome) which permits him the use of a golf cart during competitive tours.

Since 2006, Casey Martin has served as the head coach for the men’s golf team at the University of Oregon. Martin has stated that his first commitment is to the team as a coach, but he continues to play and compete whenever his schedule allows. Most recently, after winning a sectional at Emerald Valley Golf Club, he qualified for the 2012 U.S. Open.
