The American football quarterback Steve Young was born in 1961 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Young played football for his high school, distinguishing himself as one of the team’s stand-out players and earning accolades such as CIAC All-State honors and All-FCIAC West Division First Team honors. After graduating, Steve attended Brigham Young University, where he placed second in voting for the Heisman Trophy.
After college, Steve Young went on to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and then the San Francisco 49ers, in a career which set him apart as one of the era’s most impressive football players. By the time he retired, Young had the highest passer rating among NFL quarterbacks at that time, and his career featured two Most Valuable Player awards and a Most Valuable Player award for Super Bowl XXIX. Other notable awards and recognitions include: Most average yards per attempt; Best completion percentage; Ranking on The Sporting News list of the 100 Greatest Football Players; Election into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. As of 2015, Young still ranks highest amongst retired players and fourth in all-time players in the sport.
Today, Steve Young is managing director of Huntsman Gay Global Capital, a private equity firm. Young’s philanthropic endeavors including serving as national advisor to ASCEND: A Humanitarian Alliance, which seeks sustainable solutions to many third world challenges. Young also founded his own charitable foundation, the Forever Young Foundation, in 1993.
