Retired American football quarterback John Elway was born in 1960 in Port Angeles, Washington. John’s father was a college football coach, and so it was no surprise that his son would demonstrate a love and talent for the sport from early on. The family moved around frequently, depending on the senior Elway’s job offers, but John always excelled on the football field at whatever high school he was attending.
Upon graduation, John Elway was the most sought after high school player in the country, receiving dozens of scholarship offers to major universities. Ultimately, Elway chose Stanford University, where he spent four years before starting a professional career with the Denver Broncos. Elway remained with the Broncos for sixteen years, before retiring in 1999, earning the most victories by a starting quarterback and leading his team to five Super Bowls, with two championships.
Since retiring, John Elway has embarked on a number of business endeavors, including his co-ownership of the Colorado Crush, a currently inactive arena football team. Elway was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004, and he continues to be one of America’s most celebrated football legends.
