Tommy Lasorda Biography

American baseball legend Tommy Lasorda was born in 1927. Lasorda made his major league debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1954, and went on to play for the Kansas City Athletics and the New York Yankees. He returned to the Brooklyn Dodgers to finish out his career, and following his retirement in 1997, Tommy Lasorda became a manager for the team.

Lasorda became the team’s “Vice-President” after his tenure as manager concluded, later becoming the team’s General Manager and then advisor to the team. In 2000, Tommy Lasorda managed the United States team for the Summer Olympics, and throughout the millennium he has continued to appear as a public figure in a variety of capacities, his colorful and outspoken personality a welcome addition to many media forums.

In recent years, Tommy Lasorda has appeared in commercials to promote programs on Fox and ESPN, and he did a commercial for Glad bags in 2008. He also appeared on the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien in 2009, largely to promote his upcoming album, with includes “Great American Standard” duets with a number of artists, including Rod Stewart. Now well into his eighties, Tommy Lasorda continues to be a beloved American icon and recognizable public figure.
