Retired American basketball legend Michael Jordon was born in 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. Jordon spent his formative years growing up in Wilmington, North Carolina, alongside his four siblings. While in high school, Michael played not only basketball, but also football and baseball, and excelled in all three sports.
But as a standout basketball star, Michael Jordon was recruited by multiple colleges as an incoming freshman; ultimately, he chose North Carolina, where he began his studies in cultural geography. Jordan excellent on the college court as well, earning the title Freshman of the Year and going on to winning the 1982 NCAA Championship game. But Michael decided to leave his college studies in 1984, to enter the NBC draft, where he began his career with the Chicago Bulls. He did return to college to complete his degree, but ultimately went on to enjoy a professional basketball career of fifteen seasons, most of them with the Chicago Bulls and then later with the Washington Wizards.
Today, Michael Jordan is retired, but still considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time. His accomplishments and accolades are too numerous to mention in their entirety, but include six NBA Finals MVP Awards, fourteen NBA All-Star Game appearances, and five MVP Awards. Jordan was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2015.
In his retirement, Michael Jordan has enjoyed playing golf in multiple celebrity charity tournaments and has invested in a number of business ventures, including: his own Jordan Brand clothing line; Michael Jordan Motorsports; and a stake in the Charlotte Bobcats.
