The Motocross/Supercross champion Jeremy McGrath was born in 1971 in San Francisco, California. Long before McGrath rose to become one of the most beloved competitors in the sport, earning himself the title of “King of Supercross,” he grew up racing motocross while still a teenager, following a number of years racing in BMX.
In 1990, McGrath won his first Supercross race, rising to second place for that season, and establishing a decade of success which has come to be known as the “McGrath Era.” Notable achievements for Jeremy McGrath include: becoming the first rookie to win the AMA 250cc Supercross Chamionship; an AMA Pro Athlete of the Year Award in 1996; and induction into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2003.
Jeremy McGrath is credited with spawning the popularity of freestyle motocross, which has increased significantly since he entered the sport. McGrath is essentially retired, but he did return in 2005 to race on the Supercross circuit, on a limited schedule. Even at the age of thirty-four, during that year McGrath regularly beat his competitors into the top five positions. Today, McGrath lives with his family in California. His autobiography, Wide Open: A Life in Supercross, arrived in 2005.
