American professional John Daly was born in 1966 in Carmichael, California. Daly spent his early childhood in the Dardanelle area, where he began playing golf at the age of five. While a student at Helias High School in Missouri, he began to play football in addition to golf, excelling in both. In football, he set and continues to hold a number of kicking records, and in golf, he rose to become Missouri state champion. While attending the University of Arkansas, Daly continued to play golf, although he left the school prior to graduation after turning professional in 1987.
John Daly’s earliest achievements were notable. His first professional victory was at the Missouri Open in 1987, followed by the Ben Hogan Utah Classic three years later. In 1991 he joined the PGA Tour and stunned the world by winning the championship. Throughout the decade of the 1990’s, John Daly continued to be a favorite on the golf course, not only for his talents but also for his casual, “non-country club” approach to attire and attitude. By 2003, Daly had become the first PGA Tour player to average more than 300 yards per drive over a single season, every season, between 1997 and 2008.
Although his last PGA Tour victory was in 2004, John Daly has gone on to enjoy success in a number of endeavors off the course. Daly owns his own clothing line, through Loudmouth Golf. He also began designing golf courses in the mid 2000’s, establishing JD Designs, which has crafted a number of notable courses, including: The Lion’s Den (Dardanelle, Arkansas); Thundering Waters Golf Club (Niagara Falls, Ontario); and Blarney Golf Resort (Cork Country, Ireland.) His likeness is featured in the Oxygen Games series John Daly’s Prostroke Golf.
John Daly also embarked on a career as a musician in 2002, with the debut album, My Life. His follow up album, I Only Know One Way, arrived in 2010 and featured the song “Hit It Hard.” Daly’s vocals can also be heard on the Kid Rock song “Half Your Age.”
