The American motorsports competitor Travis Pastrana was born in 1983 in Annapolis, Maryland. Pastrana grew up in an athletic family; his uncle had been a quarterback for the University of Maryland, which Travis himself would go on to attend. By the time Travis was only thirteen, he’d already started performing stunts during motocross racing events, and in 1999 he won the first MotoX Freestyle event at the X Games.
Since that time, Travis Pastrana has accumulated numerous X Games gold medals and awards in a variety of events, including rally racing, motocross, supercross, and freestyle motocross. In 2004, he began driving for the Subaru-backed SportsCar rally team, and in 2006 he won the Rally America National Series overall. In 2009, he won the Ojibwe Forest Rally, and in 2011 he surprised his fans by launching a NASCAR career, driving in the 2011 Toyota All-Star Showdown and the Short Track Showdown at the Richmond International Raceway. Pastrana continued to race for NASCAR until 2013, at which time he decided to end his NASCAR career due to lack of sponsorship
Today, Travis Pastrana is best known for his MTV show Nitro Circus, a spinoff of the network’s hit series Jackass. Pastrana is also the subject of the ESPN documentary 199 Lives: The Travis Pastrana Story. Pastrana continues to race and compete in the Global RallyCross Championship, driving for the Subaru Rally Team USA.
