The American race car driver Carl Edwards was born Carl Michael Edwards II in 1979 in Columbia, Missouri. Carl grew up learning to race as a teenager, and by the time he was a student at the University of Missouri, he had decided to forgo a career as an engineer to pursue a career as a professional stock car racer.
Carl Edwards broke into the racing scene in 2002, when he competed in multiple NASCAR events. His performance was enough to garner the attention of Jack Roush, founder and owner of Roush Fenway Facing, the North Carolina NASCAR team. Roush took Carl under his wing, and made him a full-time Truck Series competitor in the following year, earning him multiple race wings and finishing in the top ten by the end of the season. Since that time, Carl Edwards’s career as a racer has been on a steady rise. After driving the No. 99 Ford Fusion for Roush, Carl began driving the No. 19 Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2015, which is the car he currently drives today.
Carl Edwards is well known for his trademark “backflip” off of his car after a win, a moment which has become a favorite for racing fans. Edwards has also become somewhat of a media personality in recent years, with a guest role on the television series 24 and an appearance as a guest ghost on WWE Raw. His likeness has graced the covers of Men’s Health magazine and ESPN the Magazine, and he has appeared on such late night shows such as The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
