Dave Koz Biography
The jazz saxophonist Dave Koz was born in 1963 in Encino, California. While growing up in Los Angeles, Koz played sax with the high school jazz band, although he opted to study Communications instead of music at UCLA instead. After graduating, Koz decided to attempt a career as a professional sax player, and so he joined a number of bands in the 1980’s.
Throughout the 1980’s and early 1990’s, Dave Koz toured with Richard Marx, until he signed with Capitol Records to release his own albums. Koz’s self-titled debut arrived in 1990, followed by: Lucky Man (1993), The Dance (1999), and Saxophonic, which earned him a Grammy nomination in 2003. Additional albums include At the Movies (2007) and Hello Tomorrow (2010.)
In recent years, Dave Koz has become well-known for his radio shows. Koz first hosted the Dave Koz Morning Show on 94.7 The Wave in Los Angeles, and in 2006 he began hosting a syndicated show for the Smooth Jazz Network. He currently also hosts the television show Frequency, in which he interviews a number of high-profile musicians and also performs with the musicians at the show’s conclusion.
In addition to his radio work, Dave Koz is also the owner of The Dave Koz Lounge in Beverly Hills. Most recently, Dave Koz appeared on an episode of Desperate Housewives in which he performed “Start All Over Again” with Dana Glover.
