The English singer John Newman was born in 1990 in Settle. Before John rose to the top of the UK singles charts with the song “Love Me Again” in 2013, he began studying guitar and musical composition when he was a teenager, often recording his own tracks in his home. By the time he was sixteen, Newman had developed his own vocal style, and at the age of twenty, he moved to London and formed his own band.
John Newman initially signed to Island Records and began contributing vocals in collaboration with other artists, such as Rudimental’s “Feel the Love” and “Not Giving In,” both of which rose to the top of the charts. Newman released his own debut single, “Love Me Again,” in 2013, and the song rose into the top ten in nearly ten countries worldwide. On the strength of this remarkable debut, John’s first album, Tribute, also enjoyed enormous success, making him one of the most promising British artists of the year.
Since then, John has released the additional single “Out of My Head,” and he has been recognized with four BRIT Award nominations, in the categories of: British Male Solo Artist, British Single, and British Video (both for “Love Me Again.”) So far, John Newman has sold nearly 1.5 million records in the UK alone, and that number is clearly expected to rise.
