The R&B soul duo known as Kindred the Family Soul was established shortly after the turn of the millennium. Comprised of Aja Graydon and Fatin Dantzler, a married couple, the duo began performing at various music festivals to showcase their talent. Eventually, they were discovered by Jill Scott, who helped Kindred the Family Soul facilitate their first record deal with Hidden Beach Recordings.
Kindred the Family Soul’s debut album, Surrender to Love, arrived in February of 2003, and featured the singles “Far Away” and “Stars.” The album was an enormous success, earning Kindred the Family Soul a Soul Train Music Award nomination for Best R&B/Soul Album, Group Band or Duo. It also paved the way for the additional albums: In This Life Together (2005), The Arrival (2008), and Love Has No Recession (2011.) The Arrival earned Kindred the Family Soul a BET Award in 2006, and collectively the albums gave audiences the hit R&B singles: “Where Would I Be (The Question),” “Woman First,” “Thru Love,” “House of Love,” and “Magic Happens.”
Kindred the Family Soul has been on a steady upswing for the last decade, and the group continues to perform and record. The duo just released their latest album, A Couple Friends, in 2014.
