John Pizzarelli Biography
John Pizzarelli, Jr. was born in 1960 in Paterson, New Jersey, to Bucky Pizzarelli, a world-renowned jazz guitarist. Obviously, young John grew up in a household destined to develop his talents and love of music, and that’s exactly what happened. Since his first releases in the early 1980’s, John has gone on to record nearly forty critically acclaimed albums, and his live performances with his jazz quartet, known for his gregarious interactions with the audience, are still in high demand today in the new millennium.
Known for his unique interpretations of classic jazz standards, and the occasional infusion of bossa nova, Pizzarelli’s work has been lauded as a whole, although his album Dear Mr. Cole (1994) is among his most famous. Other notable works from John Pizzarelli include: Sing! Sing! Sing! (1987), My Blue Heaven (1990), All of Me (1992), New Standards (1994), After Hours (1996), P.S. Mr. Cole (1999), Kisses in the Rain (2000), The Rare Delight of You (2002), Bossa Nova (2004), Knowing You (2005), Dear Mr. Sinatra (2006), With a Song in My Heart (2008), Rockin’ in Rhythm: A Tribute to Duke Ellington (2010.)
Most recently, John Pizzarelli released the album Double Exposure (2012) and in the same year published his autobiography, World on a String: A Musical Memoir. He continues to perform and record.
