Roomful of Blues was created more than four decades ago in the late 1960’s when Al Copley and Duke Robillard came together to begin performing jazz, blues, and R&B together. With the addition of a additional musicians, the duo grew into Roomful of Blues and released a debut album, also titled Roomful of Blues, in 1977. The album was enormously successful and critically acclaimed, helping Roomful of Blues to rise to national exposure.
Since that time, Roomful of Blues has embraced a rotation of nearly fifty different members, but the band has continued to record and perform consistently for the last three decades, bringing them well into the new millennium. Notable albums from the band include Standing Room only (2005), Raisin’ A Ruckus (2008),Turn it On! Turn it Up! (1995), and That’s Right (2003), the latter two which earned Roomful of Blues Grammy nominations. Roomful of Blues has also provided music in support of such notable musicians as Colin James, Jimmy McCraklin, Joe Turner, and Jimmy Witherspoon. Notable live performances include the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Beale Street Music Festival, San Francisco Blues Festival, and Stockholm Jazz Festival, often alongside such legendary musicians as Otis Rush, B.B. King, and Eric Clapton.
Currently, Roomful of Blues exists as an eight-piece band with current members: Rich Lataille, Rusty Scott, Chris Vachon, Mark Earley, Phil Pemberton, Doug Woolverton, John Turner, and Chris Rivelli. Roomful of Blues continues to perform and record, touring the country regularly.
