Taylor Dayne was born in 1962 and grew up in Long Island, New York. She began singing right out of high school, and by the time she’d graduated from college in the mid-1980’s, she’d already released the singles “Tell Me Can You Love Me,” and “I’m the One You Want.” Her smash-hit dance track, “Tell It To My Heart” launched her to stardom in 1987.
Additional hit singles followed, including: "Prove Your Love", "I'll Always Love You", "Don't Rush Me", "With Every Beat of My Heart", "Love Will Lead You Back", "I'll Be Your Shelter", " Heart of Stone", "Send Me a Lover", "Naked Without You", and "Whatever You Want". Taylor Dayne essentially dominated the dance charts for the 1980’s and 1990’s, with the hit albums Tell It to My Heart (1988), Can’t Fight Fate (1989), Soul Dancing (1993), and Naked Without You (1998.)
In the 1990’s, Taylor Dayne began an acting career, appearing in the television series Nightman and in the films Love Affair (1994), Fool’s Paradise (1997), Stag (1997), and Jesus the Driver (2004.) She also performed on Broadway in Aida in 2001. She then returned to music in 2008 with the album Satisfied and the hit dance single “Beautiful.” She sang the official theme song to the 2010 Gay Games, “Facing a Miracle,” which would rise to the top worldwide singles of that year. “Floor on Fire” followed in 2011, reaching into the top ten on the dance charts.
In addition to her commitment to music and film, Taylor Dayne is an active voice for the Save the Music Foundation, a VH1 organization which seeks to preserve funding for music education in public schools. Today, Billboard magazine ranks Dayne as among the most successful dance artists of all-time. Dayne’s latest single, “Dreaming,” arrived in 2014. She has plans for additional performances, singles, and perhaps an album in the coming years.
