The American guitarist and singer Corey Smith grew up in Georgia, attending the University of West Georgia where he was an education major with a concentration in the area of social studies. But Corey had learned to play guitar as a teenager, and he would frequently entertain his friends at college parties, where his performances grew in popularity.
Although Smith initially entered the classroom to teach world history and geography, he also taught guitar for North Gwinnett High School. Ultimately, he left education to pursue a career full-time as a musician in his late twenties, releasing his debut album, Undertones, in 2003. Four additional albums followed (In the Mood, 2004; The Good Life, 2005; Hard-Headed Fool, 2007; and Keeping Up with the Joneses, 2009), until his big breakthrough in 2011, with The Broken Record. On the strength of the song “Twenty-One,” the album rose into the top of the charts and put Corey Smith on the country music map. The album Maysville in the Meantime, an acoustic album, followed in 2014.
Corey Smith continues to perform and record. His latest album release is While the Gettin’ is Good (2015), featuring the single “Feet Wet.”
