Country music artist Jennifer Nettles was born in 1974 in Georgia. Long before she rose to fame with her breakthrough cover, “Who Says You Can’t Go Home,” young Jennifer frequently sang in her local church and in the local community theater. While attending Agnes Scott College, Nettles was a member of the group Soul Miner’s Daughter, which released two albums in the late 1990’s: The Sacred and Profane, and Hallelujah. Although the band didn’t last, Nettles first taste of success was as the band’s singer and songwriter.
After graduating, Nettles formed the Jennifer Nettles Band and released three successful studio albums. But it was after teaming up with Kristian Bush and Kristen Hall to form Sugarland that Jennifer and her bandmates rose to fame, earning a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist and placing multiple hits on the charts, including: “Baby Girl,” “Want To,” “Settlin,” and “Stay.” Hall left the group in 2006, leaving Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush to continue with Sugarland as a duo, and their success continued with the albums Enjoy the Ride (2006) and Love on the Inside (2008), featuring the songs “It Happens,” “Already Gone,” and “All I Want to Do.”
Nettles became even more well-known for her duet with Bon Jovi on the song “Who Says You Can’t Go Home,” which reached the number one spot on the country charts. The duet performance won Jennifer Nettles and Bon Jovi a Grammy for Best Vocal Collaboration, and a few years later Sugarland won the Vocal Duo of the Year Award at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Jennifer Nettles most recently began work on another solo album, although Sugarland remains an active duo for the time being.
