Country music singer Kalie Shorr was born in 1994 in Maine. Long before rising to prominence as an up-and-coming star, Kalie grew up in the Portland area, where she started writing her own original music while still in elementary school. By the time she was a teenager, she was learning to play the guitar and posting performance covers to her YouTube channel. After graduating from high school, Shorr moved to Nashville to pursue a career as a singer and songwriter.
In the early 2010’s, Kalie started to gain some traction through a number of competition wins, including Maine’s Got Talent. Social media influencer Perez Hilton started to blog about her talents, ultimately inviting her to open for the Backstreet Boys at his birthday party in 2012. Over the next few years, Shorr continued to post YouTube covers, including a cover of “Blank Space” by Taylor Swift, increasing her fan base and gaining more media coverage.
Kalie released a debut EP in 2015, which she called The Nashville Sessions and which included a number of songs from her demo tape. A year later, her debut single “Fight Like a Girl” started to gain national airplay, setting the stage for a successful series of “unsigned” EPs: The Y2K Mixtape (2016), Slingshot (2017), and Awake (2018.)
Clearly, Kalie Shorr is a country music star on the rise, even though she has yet to sign with a major label. Her self-released debut album, Open Book, recently arrived in the fall of 2019. The album features the singles “Lullaby” and “F U Forever.”
